Candidate statement

Occupation: United States Representative

Freedom and socialism are polar opposites, and Americans will soon decide which defines America’s future. Wherever socialists take control, we see the same pathologies: sky-high taxes, chronic shortages of basic necessities, poverty, crime, rampant illegal immigration, failing schools, struggling businesses and ultimately, fleeing families. We watched their policies destroy our great cities like San Francisco and then our great state of California. We can’t let that happen to our country.

Throughout my service, I have consistently stood for individual liberty, constitutionally limited government and personal responsibility. Last year, Citizens Against Government Waste gave me its highest rating for my efforts to rein in wasteful spending and my leadership to abolish outrageous congressional earmarks. The National Taxpayers Union, second amendment and pro-life groups have consistently rated me among the best votes in Congress.

As chairman of the Immigration Sub-Committee, I have guided legislation through the House to enact President Trump’s border security measures and to assure that no President can ever again open our borders to millions of unvetted and illegal migrants.

My long fight to cut through the red tape preventing forest management and water development is now coming to fruition in bills making their way to the President’s desk.

It has been a privilege to represent the people of this district for many years, and I humbly seek your support to continue this fight at a critical turning point in our nation’s history. Please visit my website at tommcclintock.com.

Candidate statement

Age: 38

Occupation: Electrical Engineer

I’m a husband, a father, and just like you, I have watched the issues we face get worse while career politicians play games and waste our tax dollars. We are dealing with rising costs, catastrophic wildfires, inaccessible healthcare, struggling farms and small businesses, and not enough good paying jobs. These problems won't be solved with partisan division; we solve them by working together.

Growing up in a town of 200 people in Amador County, I learned early on that neighbors help neighbors. Nobody asks about politics when a wildfire breaks out – we come together to help. My values have been shaped by my rural upbringing and the people in my life. I know the strength of our communities. We don’t need someone to address our issues for us; we need a federal partner who will work with us.

I'm an engineer, not a politician. My career has been defined by service and problem solving, from designing tools that keep our troops safe to serving as a Foreign Affairs Officer with the State Department. I’ve refused corporate PAC money so you know I’m working for you, not corporate interests or party bosses. I’m focused on hard working American families, just like mine. That means working towards smart investments that create opportunities, improve safety, and make life more affordable.

If you want a representative who shows up, listens, and works as hard as you do, I would be honored to have your vote.
