Candidate statement
Age: 66
Occupation: Retired School Superintendent
I am the incumbent in this office and a retired school superintendent. My life is committed to promoting and providing excellent education to all students. As a former high school principal and superintendent, I administered pre-school through adult education, and know firsthand the importance of strong relationships between our colleges and local school districts.
I endorse dual enrollment partnerships and seamless transitions from high school to college, and support Career Technical Education for students of all ages. We are experiencing higher enrollments at Columbia College and are enjoying increased opportunities for students to seek and earn career aligned degrees and certificates. This work needs to continue, and I am committed to pursuing excellence in these areas.
My experience in producing responsible budgets, hiring, developing and evaluating highly competent people, and working closely with a governing board uniquely qualifies me for this office. I have always analyzed student outcomes to determine the effectiveness of our educational programs. We have much to celebrate and yet more to achieve on behalf of our students and communities, particularly in partnering with industry in modern technologies and workforce alignment. I ask for your support in these efforts.
